Becoming a Parish Councillor

 There are nine seats on Mattersey Parish Council.   Elections are held every four years. 

 However, there are occasionally casual vacancies created  by people leaving the Parish Council for one reason or another.  Please contact  us if you are interested in becoming a Parish Councillor. 

You must comply with at least one of the following requirements:

  1. Be a local government elector for Mattersey or Mattersey Thorpe 
  2. Have during the whole of the preceding 12 months occupied as tenant or owner any land or other premises in Mattersey or  Mattersey Thorpe 
  3. Have your principal or only place of work in the preceding 12 months in Mattersey or Mattersey Thorpe 
  4. Have resided either in the Parish of Mattersey or  Mattersey Thorpe or within 3 miles of it during the whole of the preceding  12 months 

There are also certain disqualifications which prevent you becoming a Councillor, of which the main ones are: 

  1. Holding a paid job with Mattersey  Parish Council
  2. Bankruptcy 
  3. Having been sentenced to a term of imprisonment of not less than three months during the preceding five years 
  4. Being disqualified under any enactment relating to corrupt or illegal practices
